The AIU is part of the Allegheny County Schools Health Insurance Consortium (ACSHIC), which provides participating school districts, vocational schools, community colleges, and other eligible organizations in Allegheny County and surrounding areas with pooled financial resources for the payment of medical costs incurred by the employees of participating organizations.

Medical coverage has two tier levels to choose from, under Highmark BC/BS Performance Flex Blue.

Retirement and Savings Benefits
It's never too early to plan for the future!
As a school employee, all fulltime and some part time employees will qualify to participate in the Public School Employees’ Retirement System (PSERS). PSERS is a governmental, cost-sharing, multiple-employer retirement plan to which the public school employers, the Commonwealth, and school employees (members) contribute. Depending on your membership class, you may have a Defined Benefit (DB) Plan, a Defined Contribution (DC) Plan, or a hybrid with both DB and DC components.
In addition to PSERS, the AIU provides employees with two different ways to save for retirement. Employees can elect to participate in the 403(b) and/or the 457(b) program.
Paid Time Off
The AIU’s paid time off programs aim to maximize productivity inside and outside of the workplace by providing several leave programs including holiday, sick, vacation, personal, and PTO. Paid time off programs is based on an employee’s bargaining unit contract or compensation plan.
