Educational Interpreter
1. High School Diploma, required
2. Minimum score of 3.5 on one level (elementary and secondary) of the Educational Interpreter
3. Performance Assessment, required.
4. Minimum score of 3.5 on both levels (elementary and secondary) of theEducational Interpreter Performance Assessment, preferred.
5. College (two or four year Interpreting degree) or educationally relateddegree, preferred.
6. Two to five years related work experience, preferred.
7. Ability to work as part of the educational team while referencingcommunication needs as listed on the student’s IndividualEducation Program (IEP).
8. Strong interpersonal skills.
9. Working knowledge of and ability to explain role of the educationalinterpreter to regular education staff and administration.
10 Ability to work with minimal supervision.
11 Possess manual dexterity, visual acuity and facial featuresallowing for clear visual communication access.
12 Demonstrate problem solving skills to create equitable classroomaccess for students who are Deaf/HH.
13 Ability to speak clearly and distinctly.
14 Ability to hear and understand auditory sounds and speech information.
15 Is flexible and willing to fulfill role of an interpreter in the educationalsetting.
16. Ability to prioritize communication needs of students(s) byinterpreting interactions among teachers, staff and peers.
17. Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy .
