Job Title: Long Term Substitute Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired - Itinerant
Position Summary:
This position is accountable for delivering school psychological services to students who are exceptional
or though This position is responsible for planning, adapting and/or providing instruction to students
who are blind and visually impaired and the staff that work with them, in order to enable them to
effectively and efficiently benefit from educational experiences.t to be exceptional who are being
educated in local school districts and special education centers. The purpose of the position is to
determine student eligibility for special education services and to provide psychological intervention
that enhances the student’s ability to participate in special education services.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Instructs students in blindness related skills that are found in the Expanded Core Curriculum:
• compensatory or functional academic skills, including braille
• orientation and mobility
• social interaction skills
• independent living skills
• recreation and leisure skills
• career education
• use of assistive technology
• sensory efficiency skills
• self-determination
2. Adapts curriculum, plans lessons and modifies special education programs and teaching
methods in accordance to the students’ abilities and disabilities.
3. Conducts ongoing evaluations and progress monitoring and adapts goals and objectives based
on the gathered data.
4. Monitors student progress in and outside the special education setting, through direct and
indirect communication with the staff working with the student.
5. Maintains, modifies and ensures the safety of the physical environment of the educational
setting.
6. Maintains contact with families of students and school administration, and shares information
regarding student progress, school performance, advocacy and social/emotional issues, etc.
7. Evaluates student progress based on work output and observation, determines goals, objectives
and specially designed instruction of the IEP and makes recommendations for the ordering of
materials in the student appropriate learning mediums.

8. Prepares Evaluation Reports, Reevaluation Reports, IEP’s, progress reports, federal and state
mandated reports, educational records, classroom observation records, progress monitoring
records and other forms as necessary that are legally defensible.
9. Ensures and maintains student confidentiality and protects student data in accordance with the
AIU policy.
10. Collaborates and consults with school district personnel and other members of the student’s IEP
team.
11. Utilizes BVISP Wiki to facilitate and expedite communication.
12. Participates in staff development opportunities.
13. Participates in Educator Effectiveness Evaluations and provides sources of evidence to
supervisor.
14. Monitors and obtains ACT 48 and or ACVREP credits in order to maintain certification
15. Maintain a professional demeanor at all times, following all AIU policies, building procedures
and Pennsylvania professional code of conduct.
16. Work collaboratively with co-workers; including the proper management of support staff within
the classroom.
17. Utilize e-mail, Microsoft Office programs, and student informational systems (i.e. IEP Writer) to

 Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s Degree in Education of the Visually Impaired required.
2. PA Certificate in Teacher of the Blind/Visually Impaired required.
3. ACVREP O&M Certification highly preferred.
4. Ability to effectively present information and articulately respond to questions from
administrators, staff, parents, students, business and educational partners, and the general
public.
5. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
6. Self-motivator, independent, cooperative, flexible, creative, and responsible.
7. Ability and experience working as a member of a team.
8. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and
Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies.
9. Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy.
Additional Requirements:
1. Current Act 114, Act 34 and Act 151 required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of
hire date).
2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human
Resources prior to hire date.

or squatting, stooping and bending from 50-70 degrees at the waist on an occasional to frequent basis.
